The site was only founded in 2006 but has become a favourite amongst local Cross Country enthusiasts. Site Record is 74kms Open Distance set by Craig Richards in 2006 - however Leonardo OLC distances in 2007 are higher. Ridge is low (300m AGL)time your take off well and use every bit of lift right from the start. It would be helpful to think of it as releasing from a winch tow - You can't waste any lift.
Koringberg is a small ridge in the Flatlands which we use as a launchpad for cross country flatland flying. Multiple take off's in different directions. Suitable wind directions: S, SW, W, SE,E. Altitude: 480m ASL (about 300m AGL. Plentiful fields that do not have crop growing in them. From Cape Town head out on the N7 towards Piketberg. After Moorreesburg you will see a sign that says Koringberg. Turn left and left again at the first farm road 1.8km. You will see a sign that says Die Ark - it has a little paraglider pilot picture on it. Announce yourself to the farm owners. EVERYONE entering the property must sign in. This is private property and the farm owners are sensitive to you respecting their rights. Airspace restrictions apply. Info to follow but basically ATC requires a call from you to log a verbal 'flight plan' and at least one pilot must carry and monitor an airband radio. Airspace restrictions apply.
